iirc, backgrounds were originally supposed to be displayed when looking at a user's profile in pleroma, but this was never fully implemented

local users' profile backgrounds are already exposed via the api, but there's no apparent federation support

implementing it on the frontend wouldnt be too difficult, and i think it would be a neat little feature for user expression -- even if it is never added to akkoma-fe, having the information available would allow other frontends to utilize it
